What?
Our Playground Leader training aims to empower Year 5/6 children by teaching them the skills and qualities necessary to deliver playground activities and games to KS1 children. The training lasts roughly 2 hours split evenly into theory and practical sessions. One of our coaches will deliver a fun and engaging presentation where Year 5/6 will learn what it means to be a leader, what a good role model looks like as well as how to plan and deliver activities. There is an emphasis on the key fundamental movement skills and what type of activity works best, as well as learning about how to balance a safe working environment with the element of fun.
The practical part of the training gives Year 5/6 a chance to work as a group and deliver an activity to the rest of the class, getting into character and using the session as practice for if and when they are selected to deliver to KS1 further down the line. All successful participants will receive a HRVSSP certificate as a reward for completing the training. Once the school has implemented the Playground Leaders scheme, a coach will be available to come in and check on progress if needed.
We are able to provide social distanced training sessions and have already completed a number of these since schools reopened in September 2020.
Why?
The Playground Leader training is an excellent tool that helps KS2 children think about their responsibility as an older student within a Primary School setting and allows them to practice skills such as public speaking, teamwork, planning and organizing. There are important messages within the training about the benefits of regular physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. Successful and trustworthy Playground Leaders can help ease the workload on Support Staff too! The games and activities are adaptable to indoor/outdoor settings and are suitable for lunch and break times as well as active before and after school clubs.
