Ribble Valley Year 5/6 Girls Football

The heavens opened at the start of our girls football competition but that didn't dampen the spirits of the eleven Ribble Valley teams that came along to play. Teams played in two groups with the top two qualifying for the knockout stages. Group 1 featured plenty of goals with Waddington and West Bradford C Of E Primary School and Clitheroe St. James' going into the semi finals - St Michael & St John's were unlucky to miss out. Group 2 was closer with St Leonards and St Josephs going through after a tough penalty shoot out with St Mary’s RC Primary School, Langho due to every tiebreak possible being even!

The semi finals were won by St James and St Leonards respectively but the final was a tense affair with a score of  0-0 at full time. This meant the dreaded penalties and Clitheroe St. James' emerged victorious.  A great event and some amazing footballing talent on show.  We are looking forward to our version of the women's Euros in July!

Some of the St Joseph's players commented "Tough, tiring, challenging and most of all - fun!" in addition to praising the event as "well organised and fair.''
